We believe that leadership in the local church is:
SHARED LEADERSHIP & SERVANT LEADERSHIP.
Elders:
We believe that Scripture teaches that each local church should appoint elders to rule over the church (Acts 14:23; 20:13-35; Titus 1:5). Scripture lays out the qualifications for elders in 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9. Our elders are equipped to teach the body of Christ, shepherd those who attend so that they grow in their spiritual walk, care for the spiritual needs within the congregation and guard us from false teaching.
Deacons:
In order that the elders of a local church do not get distracted from the ministry of the Word of God, Scripture establishes the office of deacon to take care of the physical needs that arise within the congregation (Acts 6:1-6). The office of Deacons is to be filled only by those who meet the spiritual qualifications of the office, 1 Tim. 3:8-14. The roles of our deacons include groundskeeping so that the church is ready for worship each Sunday, handling benevolence funds for the purpose of meeting physical and financial needs that may arise and seeing the physical aid of the needs that arise within the church.
Deaconesses:
We believe that Scripture allows for women to hold the office of deacon in a manner that assists the men but does not ‘rule over’ them (Rom. 16:1; 1 Tim. 4:11; 1 Tim. 2:12). This is a ministry of service. Our deaconess board has been established to take up some of these functions in different roles from the Deacon Board. Our deaconesses oversee providing food for church fellowships, preparing flowers for special services or special needs, providing meals for those in need.
